Everest via Cho La Pass Trek

Cho La Pass Trek is one of the alternate options available to visit Everest Base Camp. It is combined trek of Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp with an option to cross a high pass named Cho La.
Most prefer to cross Cho La Pass due to stunning views of Himalayas with the natural beauty of Himalayas connecting three major places in Khumbu region. Gokyo Lakes, Cho La and Everest Base Camp, this trekking route is a combination of adventure and nature’s wonders. Cho La Pass Trekking is an adventurous trekking route in Khumbu; the home of Sherpa people. This pass is between two small villages; Dragnak (4,700m) to the west and Dzongla (4,830m) to the east. Cho La Pass Trekking is known as Everest Circuit Trek. This pass is physically demanding during winter season and may require special foot gears. The top of the pass is unstable as well. This is an excellent trekking route that connects both Gokyo Lakes and Everest Base Camp. Visiting two main viewpoints i.e, Gokyo RI and Kalapatthar is demanding but worh to reach on top. Cho La Pass Trekking is rated as adventurous trekking route that is suitable for mid-experienced trekkers. The route is filled with dramatic landscapes, towering snowy Himalayas peaks like Thamseku.kangtega, Cho-Oyu, Pumori, Nuptse, Lhotse, etc. including the majestic Everest itself. The trek is arranged in clockwise direction which is equally versatile in anticlockwise direction as well. Cho La Pass Trek is outstanding trekking trial. The trail starts from Lukla and goes through Dole, Macchermo and Gokyp before we stop in Thaknak for overnight before crossing the pass. Starting early morning from Thaknak, we will cross Cho La Pass and then descend down to Dzongla for another night. We continue towards Lobuche, GorakShep and KalaPatthar and descend down to Lukla where we will conclude our adventure.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu International Airport(1,265m). Transfer to Hotel. Evening Welcome Dinner with Cultural Dance, O/N at Hotel
Pick up at TribhuvanInternation Airport, meeting with your guide and transfer to hotel. First impressions of Kathmandu, walk to medieval Kathmandu Durbar Square and explore the beautiful complex of palaces, temples, shrine and courtyards built by the ancient Nepali kings between the 12th and 18th century. We also discover Thamel – the vibrant tourist area with hotels, restaurant and outdoor shops. Briefing hotel where we will be discussing the technicalities of the trek, In the evening, you enjoy a welcome dinner with cultural dance. Overnight stay at hotel.
Day 02: Sightseeing and Preparation, O/N at Hotel
After Breakfast at hotel, start sightseeing with private van to Pashupatinath Temple, the most important Hindu temples of Nepal with the sacred burning ghats located at the holy Bagmati river and Boudhanath the biggest Buddhist stupa in South Asia and SwoyambhuNath also known as Monkey Temple. Afternoon checking and arranging trekking gears.Overnight stay at Hotel.
Day 03: Early morning flight to Lukla (2,480m) – Trek to Phakding (2,610m), Walking 4 Hours, O/N at Tea House
In the early morning we drive to Tribhuvan Airport to connect our flight to Lukla – flight time approx. 40 minutes from Kathmandu. After breakfast in Lukla (2,850m), we start trekking through beautiful settlements to join soon the main trial in ChuriKharka. We follow the east bank of the DudhKoshi – the River of Milk where you witness the typical Nepal terrace culture, state roofed houses and views on KusumKangaru (5,579m). We reach Phakding (2,640m) after 4 hours gentle walking. Overnight stay at Lodge inPhakding.
Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazaar (3,440m), Walking 5 Hours, O/N at Tea House
Today we make a challenging hike to Namche Bazaar (3,440m), situated at 6-7 hours walking from Phakding. We climb up along the west bank of the DudhKoshi to the tiny village of Toktok. We get our first glimpse of Thamserku peak (6,608m) and reach Benkar (2,710m). The cliffs above the village are decorated with huge paintings of Buddist deities. We cross the colourful suspension bridge and enter the Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo (2,840m). After Jorsalle, we follow the river bank over gravel, climb through a pine forest and cross the DudhKoshi by a big suspension bridge. Then we face a continuous zigzag ascent of 2 hours through dense pine forests. In the early morning, we reach the vibrant center of Namche Bazaar, one of the most attractive settlements of Solu-Khumbu district. Overnight stay at Lodge inNamche Bazaar.
Day 05: Acclimatization Day at Namche Bazaar (3,440m), Walking 3 Hours, O/N at Tea House
Rest day in Namche. Optional walk to the SherwiKhangba,Sherpa Culture Museum or day hike to the Hotel Everest View in Khumjung village (3,700m) and Khundi Hospital in Khundi Village, the first hospital build in Khumbu Region by Sir Edmund Hillary and Himalayan Trust in 1966 AD.Overnight stay at Lodge inNamche Bazaar.
Day 06: Trek to PhrotseThanga (3,680m), Walking 6-7 Hours, O/N at Tea House
Wake early to climb to the Thame monastery, after which you return the same way skirting the top of Namche before climbing to Syangboche, and continuing on to two serence Sherpa villages, Khumjung (3,790m) and Khunde (3,890m). Sir Edmund Hillary established his first hospital in Khnde and he established a school in Khumjung. The KhumjungGompa possesses what is supposed to be a Yeti skull.Overnight stay in PhrotseThanga.
Day 07: Trek to Macchermo (4,470m), Walking 5-6 hours, O/N at Tea House
Leaving the main trail to Mt.Everest, climb high on a ridge to 4,000m past a large chorten at the village of Mong, said to be the birthplace of the Saint Lama SangeDorje, the reincarnate lama of Rongbu Monastery in Tibet who introduced Buddhism to the Khumbu. From there, descent to the village of PhortseTenga by the Dudhkoshi river. From Phortse, the trail climbs steeply through forests of rhododendrons and then stands of juniper and large conifers as the altitude increases. You will pass through Sherpa kharkas (high pastures to recover) and the villages of Tongba (3,950m) and Gyele (3,960m) to Dole. You have great views of Khumbila and Tawachee peaks throughout the day.Overnight stay in Macchermo.
Day 08: Trek to Gokyo (4,790m), Walk Around, O/N at Tea House
Today you have a short and leisurely trek to allow you to acclimatize to the altitude. In the morning, there is a steep but beautiful climb through conifer and rhododendron forests and stands of juniper to Lhabarma (4,220m) and Luza (4,360m). There are kharkas wherever there is a flat spot and the slightest hint of water. Conitnue to climb along the side of the valley high above the river to Macchermo (4,410m).Overnight stay in Gokyo.
Day 09: Visit to GokyoRi (5,360m), All Day Excursion, O/N at Tea House
This is your first day at high altitude and the trekking today may describe as oderate to difficult. Climb a ridge from where the valley opens wide as the trail passes through Pangkha, Mt. Cho Oyu (8,152m) dominates the skyline to the north as we climb the moraine on the left flank of the Ngozumpa Glacier. The clib is steep to the first of the four lakes tha lie in the Gokyo area but the trail levels off towards the second lake, Longponga at 4,690m. Finally ascend a path past the largest of the lakes DudhPokhari to Gokyp at 4,750m. Gokyo is typical kharka with stone houses and stone walled pastures. For enthusiasts a rigorous hike up GokyoRi (5,360m), the small peak aboceGokyo provides spectacular views of the Everest trinity, Nuptse (7,879m), and Everest (8,848m), as well as Makalu (8,463m) looming ot the East, Cho Oyu (8,153m) to the North and the smaller but closer peaks of Cholatse and Tawachee to the South. There is a wonderful view of Gokyo and DudhPokhari spread out below. Overnight stay in GokyoRi.
Day 10: Trek to Chhyugima (Dragnag) (5,170m), 6/7 Hours walk via Cho La Pass (5,420m), O/N at Tea House
Long walk aling with the hardest part of the trek. Cross the Southern end of the Ngozumpa Glacier, pass by the stone huts of Thagnakharka then climb steadily up a narrow and steep valley which opens up to a wide shallow valley leading to the KharkaChhyugima (5,170m).Overnight stay on Chhyguma (Dragnag).
Day 11: Trek to Dronglla via Cho La Pass (5,420m), Overnight at Lodge, 7 Hours Walk, O/N at Tea House
Today, you have a steep and challenging but non-technical climb over rock, snow and perhaps ice to Cho La Pass (5,420m) that links the glacial valleys of Cho Oyu and Everest and from where you have superb views. Descend from the pass, cross a small glacier, negotiate the icefall at the end of it and descend via Leisyasa to DzonglhaKharka (4,730m), a high altitude summer pasture direcly beneath the North wall of Cholatse Peak (6,440m).Overnight stay in Dornglla.
Day 12: Trek to Lobuche (4,910m), 5 Hours Walk, O/N at Tea House
After a morning of rest, you hike on a trail above Tsholo Lake and join the main Everest trail at Dughla on the terminal moraine of the Khumbu Glacier. From Dughla climb up the moreaine past a row of stone monuments in memory of Sherpas who died on expeditions to Everest and on to Lobuche (4,910m).
Day 13: Trek to GorakShep (5,140m), Everest Base Camp -GorakShep, 5-6 Hours Walk, O/N at Tea House
Excursion to Everest Base Camp. All day walking up to Everest base camp you will have wonderful chance to see west face of Nuptse. From there, make a steep ascent to the top of a small peak, Kala Patthar (5,545m) meaning ‘”Black Rock”. From here, we can see Mt. Everest, Mt. Nuptse, Mt. AmaDablan, Mt. Kantega, Mt. Tamserku, Mt. Tawatse and Mt. Pumon all present them in a 360 degree panaroma.Overnight stay in GorakShep.
Day 14: Climb Kala Patthar and Trek Dingboche (4,410m),5-6 Hours Walk,O/N at Tea House
A short descent to Thukla followed by an easy flat trail and a small descent takes you to Dingboche. This is the highest big settlement in the Khumbhu area of Sherpas.Overnight stay in Dingboche.
Day 15: Trek Back To Tengboche (3,860m), Visit Tengboche Monastery, 4/5 Hours Walk, O/N at Tea House
The trail makes a gradual descent through scrub junipers and around Mani stones as it follows the hillside. The trail passes many Mani walls in deep rhododendron forests where crossing after the Imjakhola, the trail climbs many carved Mani stones to Pangboche. PangbocheGompa is the oldest in Khumbu; a visit will be well worth it. Overnight at Tea House Lodge in Tengboche.
Day 16: Trek Back To Jorsalle (2,740m), 5/6 Hours Walk, O/N at Tea House
From Thyangboche, the trail drops sharply down to the DudhKoshi and the village of Phunki, where you cross the river, and up toward Namche Bazaar continue down to Jorsalle.Overnight stay in Jorsalle.
Day 17: Trek Back To Lukla (2,840m), 5/6 Hours Walk, O/N at Tea House
Retrace your steps down along the gorge of the DudhKoshi to Lukla to catch your return flight to Kathmandu.Overnight stay in Lukla.
Day 18: Flight Back To Kathmandu (35 Minutes), O/N at Hotel
We catch an early morning flight to Kathmandu. After reaching Kathmandu, we can take a rest or do some souvenir shopping. If we want to explore any other areas of Kathmandu, we may do that today. Our guides can help you with both souvenir shopping or sightseeing. There will be a farewell dinner in the evening to celebrate the climbers’ successful summit of the Mera Peak. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
Day 19: Drop at International Airport as Per Schedule. Departure from Nepal
Your adventure in Nepal comes to an end today. There is nothing to do but trade emails with your travel companions and organize your photos. A representative from our company will take you to the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home, you’ll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
