The Holy Damodar Kund Trek – 15 Days
DamodarKunda (lake) is famous for Hindu religion; it is situated in rain shadow of High Himalayas north of Annapurna range. The elevation of the DamodarKunda is just 4,890 meters; it is cold and windy place. We recommend you to visit during the full moon of August every year, because every year there is a big festival up there. Many pilgrims from Hindu and Buddhist religion visit in full moon of August. Usually, you can visit April to September every year.
Festival time will be great for visiting DamodarKund. From DamodarKund, the views are great, from some viewpoints a bit higher than the lakes, just a short climb up some of the hills. The Tibetan plateau &DamodarHimal lies to the north and the Annapurna Himalayas massive lies to the south of DamodarKund. The Damodar lakes are located three days walk north east of the main Mustang trekking route & very close to Tibetan border. DamodarKund lies on restricted upper mustang between Kagbeni and Muktinath. DamodarHimal, mountain range in Nepal Himalayas, in mustang district, Includes MuktinathHimal (6,706m) and Bhrikuti Peak (6,364m). There are 65 peaks in this Himal range.
Many Hindus from round the globe are dreaming to take a holy bath at least once in their life time in the sacred DamodarKund, situated at the altitude of 5,400 meters lap of high Himalayas in Upper Mustang on the north east of Mustang District, Nepal. Firstly, while describing BarahPuran has narrated the DomodarKund, River Kaligandaki can’t be left untouched. River Kaligandaki has its source in DamodarKund and throughout its flow to south right up to Indian border carries a manifestation of lying lord Vishnu with Damodarkund jeweled as his auspicious Head and with Muktinath as the mouth, Shaligram Chakra as chest, RuRuKshetra of Palpa district as the waist, Devaghatam as the Knee and lastly the auspicious feet of lord Vishnu goes to the credit of Gajendra Moksha devadham, NawalParasi.
Secondly, BarahPuran has narrated the damodarkund’s religions significance; Lord Krishna has said that who pays a visit to this Kunda and takes a deep bath, they will free from all the sin. It is also mentioned in Puran that two sons of Kubers were suffering from their wrongdoing& sin, which they did in their previous birth but lord Krishna suggested them to take bath in this Kunda and immediately after taking bath in this Kunda they were released from all their sin. Such a beautiful elaboration of the lord, one may find starting from the auspicious lakes of DamodarKund.
Here we are at their service to make their dream come true. So the importance of a visit to this sacred place cannot describe in a short paragraph. We welcome you to a serene and highly religious DamodarKund. While visiting DamodarKundyou are in the land of Mustang, the hidden kingdom of Himalayas, you will enjoy a very different culture than that of Indian sub-continent Aryan and Dravid culture.
