Kalinchowk to BIGU (Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery) Trek – 7 days
Kalinchowk, a perfect destination for a short trek in Nepal can do within 3 days. It is a Village Development Committee (VDC) of Dolakha District in Janakpur Zone in North Eastern Nepal. It receives thousands of pilgrimage and trekkers in a year. It is also one of the quickest accesses to the elevation of 3,790m from Kathmandu via land transport.
The tremendous panoramic view of Himalayas from Kalinchowk, the pilgrimage site for Hindus (Kalinchowk Bhagwati) as well as for Buddhist, the unexplored culture, lifestyle and diversities is the attraction of a Kalinchowk trek in Nepal. One can visit in any season during a year.
Kalinchowk Bhagwati Temple is a Hindu shrine in Dolakha District of Nepal. It situated in Kalinchowk VDC in Dolkha at the altitude of 3,842m from sea level. The myth about this temple is once a person exits the temple premises one should not return. It approximately takes 1 hour to reach to this temple from kuri village. It is a part of Gaurishankar Conservation Area from where two rivers Sun Koshi and Tama Koshi River are originated.
As per the priest of temple assigned by the GUTHI, In Hindu mythology, this is the place where Goddess Kali killed Raktabīja; was an asura (loosely translated as demon) who fought with God and Goddess from the side of the Asura and he was blessed by Mahadev/Shiva that each drop of blood pouring from Raktabīja’s body and devoured his duplicates, so his single drop of blood turn into a form of his own so there were millions and billon armies generated by his blood, to stop the regeneration of the Asura Goddess Kali drunk his blood. After killing Raktabija Goddess Kali felt thirsty and there were no source of water then God Mahadev/Shiva through his Trisul (Weapon of Shiva) on the top of the mountain for water and Goddess drunk that water to fulfill her thrust. There is still source of small amount of water (called Kunda in Nepali, which is taken as holy water and devotees take water from there to home as well. Still there are bare land surrounding, and people believe that are due to blood of Raktabija.
From the summit of Kalinchowk , you can enjoy the splendid superb view of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Shisha Pangma, Dorje Lakpa, Jugal Himal, Gauri Shankar, etc. and can even see the Kathmandu valley in a clear day.
Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Kuri, 8 Hrs, O/N at Lodge/Tent
Day 02: Trek from Kuri to Tinsang La via Kalinchowk Mandir, 6-7 Hrs, O/N at Tent
Day 03: Trek from Tinsang La to Bigu (Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery), 5-6 hrs, O/N at Tent
Day 04: Bigu (Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery), O/N at Guest House/Tent
Day 05: Participating Morning Prayer with nuns and doing some volunteering works for Nunnery
Day 06: Trek from Bigu to Singati, 6-7 Hrs, O/N at Guest House/ Tents
Day 07: Drive from Singati to Kathmandu, 8-9 Hrs
Day 01: Drive from Kathmandu to Kuri, 8 Hrs, O/N at Lodge/Tent
Drive to Kalinchowk by jeep from Kathmandu to Charikot which is approximately about 150km then drive continue to Kuri around 12 km. The drive from Kathmandu to Charikot is very beautiful around 8-9 hours drive passing through a rivers, stream, hills, mountain, etc. On the way, you can stop at Khare Dhunga to enjoy cool breeze and enjoy panoramic view from there. Overnight in Kuri.
Day 02: Trek from Kuri to Tinsang La via Kalinchowk Mandir, 6-7 Hrs, O/N at Tent
Kuri is a small village with settlement of lodges to accommodate the tourist, which is right below the Kalinchowk hill. Your destination is just an hour hike from Kuri. Once you make it to Kuri, you can visit Kalinchowk hill summit (3,790m.) In the following morning , you can see the beautiful sunrise from the summit. The Hindu people worship at Kalinchowk Bhagwati with great devotees. At the day of Janai Purnima festival, thousand of devotees visit Kalinchowk Bhagwati for puja. From the summit of Kalinchowk , you can enjoy the splendid superb view of Langtang Himal, Ganesh Himal, Shisha Pangma, Dorje Lakpa, Jugal Himal, Gauri Shankar etc. and can even see the Kathmandu valley in a clear day. Day 03: Trek from Tinsang La to Bigu (Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery), 5-6 Hrs, O/N at Tent
Tingsang la 3,320m which is one of the pass of Great Himalayan trial with the great camping spot and view of Mount Gauri-Shankar and ranges from both Tibet and Nepal. Overnight at Tent in Bigu (Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery).
Day 04: Bigu (Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery), O/N at Guest House/Tent
After Breakfast have short visit and orientation of Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery then Rest Day (Free Day). Overnight at Guest House/Tent in Bigu (Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery).
Day 05: Participating Morning Prayer with nuns and doing some volunteering works for Nunnery
Today, we participate in morning prayer with nuns and also involve in volunteering works for Nunnery. Overnight in Bigu (Tashi Chime Gatsal Nunnery).
Note: if would like to some more days volunteering at Nunnery then it’s possible
Day 06: Trek from Bigu to Singati, 6-7 Hrs, O/N at Guest House/ Tents
Today, we trek back from Bigu to Singati which is 6-7 Hrs downward trek.
Day 07: Drive from Singati to Kathmandu, 8-9 Hrs
We drive from Singati to Kathmandu which is 8-9 hours drive. Overnight stay at hotel in Kathmandu.
